New teaching posts allocated to St. Mary's NS

25th Apr 2026
Due to increased enrolment St. Mary's NS has been allocated the next mainstream class teacher. This will mean that our classes, while still multigrade, will be split along the lines of the curriculum - ie Junior & Senior Infants, 1st & 2nd class, 3rd & 4th class and 5th & 6th class. This mirrors the way that the curriculum, both the 1999 and the New Primary Curriculum Framework is structured. This, combined with our small class numbers will mean that children will have access to an enhanced educational experience that can be enacted at their curricular level, meaning higher quality learning experiences for our students.
Additionally, we have be allocated an extra 7.5 hours per week for support teaching this year. We currently have two full time support teachers here in St. Mary's and these extra teaching hours will facilitate us in providing even more support to students across all classes. The majority of support is delivered on an in-class basis, with some withdrawal for individual and small group sessions where this is deemed best practice.
We as a staff are committed to providing the very best learning experience for all students here in St. Mary's NS Oldtown. The extra resources allocated this year will really support us in continuing to do so.
